Sunday Worship at 9:30am
What to Expect
The Setting
We want Jesus to be seen, known, loved, and worshipped. Our aim is not impressing you; it’s to lead you into the presence of the Lord… that is our greatest resource. If you’re looking for appeal or comfort, that’s not our main goal, so this might not be for you. We’re trying to get you to look to the One who will transform you. Us trying to impress you won’t accomplish that.
This is not your average church service in today’s world. We carve out a space for believers who are serious about loving Jesus and finding the way He said to go. It’s a place to worship, to grow in your faith, to discover the teaching of Christ, and let it be transformative to you. We’re geared to people who want to take up their cross. We might not do some of the things that you might expect in a typical American church setting. We are not hiding the fact that we long to be a place that is centered in a biblical format of worship.
Worship services are Spirit-led and filled. While there is structure in the planning, we recognize the leadership of the Holy Spirit Who ultimately guides these times together with flexibility in elements and length. Common activities are musical worship, prayer, communion, preaching/teaching/reading of God’s Word, and fellowship.
Experience
Wondering what to wear? Come as you are. You’ll see jeans, dresses, t-shirts—you may see the Lead Pastor preach in jeans. Wear whatever is comfortable to you.
Children
Children in nursery through 5th grade participate with their family during the first portion of the main worship service on Sundays, and then are dismissed to the Kids program where they’ll continue loving Jesus and being taught to live like Him.
Parents, we want to keep your child safe, and the best way to do that, is with a check-in system. Children attending The Narrow Way Kids program will be checked in by a parent and receive a tag. After the service, parents can pick up their children using the matching check-in tag.
Youth
Teens in 6th-12th grade connect and grow in their faith together before the Sunday service while eating some breakfast, and then attend the worship service.
Worship
Worship is not a performance or a spectator sport. It’s a personal, active choice to offer devotion to our Savior. Whatever posture helps you to keep your focus on Jesus and give Him your best in worship, please do it. If it’s raising your hands, if it’s kneeling, if it’s closing your eyes—whatever it may be, it’s giving an offering of praise to Him because He is the most deserving.
We don’t sing every song you hear on the radio. Every worship song is specifically selected to glorify Jesus. While contemporary Christian music songs may mention Jesus, not all of them have a home in a corporate worship context. From Handel to last week’s hit, we sing whatever glorifies Jesus. Worship is not geared to a specific generation or style—it’s not your grandma’s worship service nor is it catered to today’s culture or fad.
Prayer
If you’re going through something difficult in your life and need prayer, you’re not alone. Share a prayer request at the information table and we’ll pray with you and for you during the service. Our elders and church family will come alongside to lift up this need with you. At times, congregants will request to be anointed with a small dab of oil for a need they represent. This is in accordance with James 5:13-15, “Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises. Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven.”
Communion
Communion reminds us of Jesus’ broken body and spilled blood as the redeeming sacrifice for us to spend eternity with Him. Through the bread and drink, we are reminded to hunger and thirst for Jesus. We share together in this tangible reminder of Christ’s great love for us as a church on a regular basis. When we do this, we aim to share in Jesus’ suffering as Philippians 3:10-11 says, “I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised Him from the dead. I want to suffer with Him, sharing in His death, so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead!”
Sermons
The weekly messages are given by our teaching team made up of our lead pastor and some of the church elders who are gifted to preach. Each sermon is directly focused from passages in Scripture, and consistently point to Jesus.
If you have a Bible, bring it with you. We carry God’s Word because God’s Word carries us. If you don’t have one, please let us know and we’ll be glad to give you one.
If you’re a notetaker, sermon notes are typically available at the entrance and information table.
